YEREVAN, March 25. /ARKA/. No price hikes at Armenia's egg markets are expected ahead of Easter, Manas Yepremyan, the head of Lusakert chicken farm, said on Friday. He thinks it will depend on market.
Ruben Aytyan, head of the monitoring and marketing division of the National Academy of Consumers, on his side, said competition at the market this year and stable prices give no grounds for anxiety.
Melita Hakobyan, chair of the National Association of Consumers of Armenia, said that egg prices in Armenia are lower this year than in past years. Prices for one egg are ranging from 50 to 70 drams.
Hakobyan thinks that, as a rule, prices at egg market go up ahead of Easter because of pre-holiday fuss.
In her words, Armenia's residents buy goods for holidays at the last moment creating additional demand and pressure on prices, and traders, in a bid to take advantage of it, raise prices, especially for green.
Hakobyan said that Armenia is a large producer of eggs and chicken meat, and today egg-producers in Armenia cater for the country's whole demand. Market competition curbs price rise as well.
