YEREVAN, September 10. /ARKA/. The Armenian Police said today that privatization of the Black Fortress in the second-largest town of Gyumri was illegal.
The Police said in a statement that by a decision of the government in 1995 the fortress was handed over to the Ministry of Defense, and in 2004 it was included in the list of historical and cultural heritage of the Shirak region.
In 2005, the cadastre office in Gyumri issued a certificate of ownership to the ministry. However, according to the police, then high-ranking and other officials of the ministries of defense and justice, out of personal interest, organized an illegal process of alienating the Black Fortress in favor of an individual.
Formally, they referred to the government's permission to alienate the property of the Ministry of Defense, which, however, did not apply to the fortress.
The sales contract was signed on May 11, 2005. After that, on May 19, 2005, the cadastre office in Gyumri registered the castle as property of that individual, as a result of which the state, represented by the Ministry of Defense, suffered significant damage.
The Police said a criminal case was initiated and forwarded to the Investigative Committee. -0-
