The poverty level is falling in Armenia slowly, yet confidently, Armenia’s minister of finance David Sargsyan said in the parliament hearings on draft budget Monday.

YEREVAN, October 28. /ARKA/.  The poverty level is falling in Armenia slowly, yet confidently, Armenia’s minister of finance David Sargsyan said in the parliament hearings on draft budget Monday.

According to the ministry of finance, poverty level was 33.1% of the overall number of population in the country in 2012 and the extremely poor were 2.8%, with the poverty line at 36,192 drams per month.

The poverty rate was 35% in Armenia in 2011 and 35.8% in 2010, the minister said.
The ministry of finance expects the poverty will be at 32.1% and the extreme poverty at 2.7% in 2013, with poverty line being at 37,468 drams.

Sargsyan also said the poverty will be slowly going down also in 2014 due to increase in salaries and pensions.

Under the new law of remuneration and amendments to the law about state pensions, pensions will be raised by 15% in Armenia as from January 1 2014. Public servants’ salaries will be increased by 40% as from July 1 2014. –0—
