Second police officer wounded in bank attack in Yerevan died

A police officer, who was wounded in an attack on a branch of HSBC Bank Armenia in Yerevan today afternoon has died, police spokesman Ashot Aharonyan reported on his Facebook page.

YEREVAN, May 3. /ARKA/. A police officer, who was wounded in an attack on a branch of HSBC Bank Armenia in Yerevan today afternoon has died, police spokesman Ashot Aharonyan reported on his Facebook page.

According to earlier reports, an employee of the HSBC Bank Armenia was killed and another one wounded by a man who broke into the bank’s branch on Komitas Avenue at about 2:25 pm today, armed with a knife, a grenade, and a gun, the police reported.

Ashot Aharonyan said the attacker stole money and tried to escape, but  did not succeed. He said the police rapid response group immediately arrived at the scene surrounding the robber, who showed resistance, wounding  one of the policemen, but was quickly rendered harmless and taken to the police. He said the circumstances of the attack are being investigated. 

According to Edgar Janoyan, a senior official at HSBC Bank Armenia, the attacker is a traffic police colonel Daniel Danielyan. 

"Unfortunately, the doctors were unable to save the life of the policeman who received a gunshot during the attack,’ Aharonyan said. The police officer was identified as Ara Shahgulyan, the father of two children. He had joined the police force in 2000.-0-
