Shushi-Berdzor-Goris road open in both direction- Nagorno-Karabakh Interior Ministry

YEREVAN, August 25. /ARKA/. The Shushi-Berdzor-Goris section of the interstate highway connecting Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and Armenia is open in both directions, the Artsakh Interior Ministry reported.

It said the Russian peacekeepers ensure the free and safe movement of citizens entering and leaving Nagorno-Karabakh.

Nagorno-Karabakh authorities said in early August that the Azerbaijani side, through Russian peacekeepers, demanded to organize communication between Karabakh and Armenia via a new route.

The residents of Berdzor, and two Armenian-populated villages of Akhavno and Nerkin Sus, located within the Lachin corridor, were told by Artsakh authorities to evacuate before August 25 on grounds that there would be no Russian peacekeepers on this territory after August 25.

The new road connecting Armenia with Artsakh bypassing Lachin and the two Armenian villages will have the same status as the existing corridor that will be handed over to Azerbaijan next week, the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent told the leaders of the five political groups represented in the Karabakh parliament.

According to a statement released by the Nagorno-Karabakh parliament’s press service, they received assurances that “the new route will have a legal status of the same corridor” and will be controlled by the Russian peacekeepers.' -0-
