Soldier from Russian military base was caught when trying to cross into Turkey

A Russian soldier, who deserted from the Russian military base in Armenia’s second largest town of Gyumri on August 2 was caught while heading towards the Armenian-Turkish border, “Aravot" (Morning) daily said today citing a resident of the village Voskeask.

YEREVAN, August 3. /ARKA/. A Russian soldier, who deserted from the Russian military base in Armenia’s second largest town of Gyumri on August 2 was caught while heading towards the Armenian-Turkish border, “Aravot" (Morning) daily said today citing a resident of the village Voskeask.
"I saw him (the soldier) heading towards the Turkish border. I stopped him, and asked his name and where he was going to. He said his name was Sergey Shilov, born in 1996 and that he has served about two years at the military base and is tired of his military service and wants to go to Turkey", the resident, Gevork Serobyan told a correspondent of the daily.
According to him, the soldier was unarmed, having with him just a watch, a compass and a bag.
"I immediately reported this to the Russian military base. The soldier was caught and handed to the border guards as a violator of the border," the man said. -0--
