YEREVAN, November 23. /ARKA/. The South Caucasus Railway CJSC is cooperating with the authorities of Armenia’s city of Alaverdi to help them in remedying consequences of a hurricane that raged in some provinces of Armenia on November 12 and 13.

The territorial administration and emergency ministry says hundreds of roofs were blown out and dozens of trees and power line poles were toppled in Lori, Tavush and Aragatsotn provinces. Gas pipelines were damaged as well.

“The South Caucasus Railway offered help to the Alaverdi mayor in recovery,” said Sergei Valko, the company CEO. “As of November 21, 500 square meters of profiled metal and 230 asbestos-cement boards have been given to the Alaverdi mayor for repairing roofs. The South Caucasus Railway’s emergency crew cut 31 trees. The work will be continued the next week.”

South Caucasus Railway, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, runs Armenian Railway, which was handed over to the South Caucasus Railway on February 13, 2008 for 30-year concession management with a right to prolong the management term for other 10 years. --0---
