Teachers who pass certification will have their wages increased

Armenian school educators, who will pass a voluntary exam to acquire a teaching certification will have their salaries raised by 30%, 40% or 50% starting from October, depending on the points scored at the exam, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a government meeting on Thursday.

YEREVAN, October 21. /ARKA/. Armenian school educators, who will pass a voluntary exam to acquire a teaching certification will have their salaries raised by 30%, 40% or 50% starting from October, depending on the points scored at the exam, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a government meeting on Thursday.

He said those teachers, whose salary had already been increased once, now have the opportunity to have it increased again by 30, 40, 50%.

The prime minister noted that the salary of teachers who score 70-80 points will increase by 30%, the salary of those who score 80-90 points - by 40%, and those who score 90-100 points - by 50%.

Education, Science, Culture and Sports Minister Vahram Dumanyan said that the first stage of certification had already been completed on September 26.

According to him, in total, 1,372 teachers had applied for voluntary certification, but only 996 people (72.6%) took part in the certification.

He said out of 996 teachers only 468 teachers will receive a 30, 40 or 50% wage increase according to the scores collected . The average salary of a teacher now is about 125 thousand drams.

The minister emphasized that the first stage of certifications involved teachers of grades 7-12 teaching 7 subjects - Armenian language and literature, history of Armenia, algebra, geometry, physics, chemistry, biology and geography. According to him, starting next year, the certification will involve teachers of grades 5-12 teaching all subjects. ($1 - 477.34 drams) -0-
