Total amount of support to Karabakh refugees amounted to about $109 mln - Deputy Prime Minister
YEREVAN, April 10. /ARKA/. The total amount of support provided to persons forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan amounted to about $109 million, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan said on Wednesday.
He said a large number of foreign governments provided either financial or material support.
According to him, most of the support was directed to the office of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and foreign development agencies.
Thus, the European Union and some foreign governments, according to him, provided direct budget support in the amount of $17 million. Another $16 million was allocated to the World Bank to support the budget. Also, food, medicine and household items necessary for refugees were also to Armenia.
After 24 hours of heavy bombardment, Azerbaijan succeeded in gaining exclusive control over the entire Nagorno-Karabakh cleansing it of its ethnic Armenian population. The final days of September 2023 saw more than 100,000 ethnic Armenians flee Nagorno-Karabakh and pour into neighboring Armenia. -0-
