YEREVAN, February 6. /ARKA/. Arthur Vanetsyan, a former head of the Armenian National Security Service, has announced today that he was starting a political career. "I am going to announce the start of my political activity and will try to be present already on the political arena," Vanetsyan said Wednesday as he met with chief editors of a number of Armenia's printed media outlets.
He said that political activity implies creation of a political party, which will be registered soon. He finds it necessary to establish a political party for uniting those people who are opposed to the present authorities' policy. "An important phenomena has emerged in Armenia - the society is divided into white and black people," he said. In his opinion, this is "a false political agenda", since all are Armenian citizens.
Speaking about the Motherland development foundation he has established one month ago,
Vanetsyan said that this shows how high is his appreciation of "the country's civil society which is committed to democratic principles".
"I attach importance to the national agenda and will be pushing it forward through civil society to be guided our national, not foreign agenda," he said.
Vanetsyan said that funds for Motherland Foundation will be attract also by particular representatives of Armenian communities worldwide with whom he has met. "We will be engaged in particular issues, not charity," he said. "We will have an office soon and a website as well as a platform - media hub with a modern, properly equipped hall for news conferences, where it will be possible to hold various discussions."
Vanetsyan resigned in September 2019 accusing the authorities of "spontaneous decisions and unjustified actions". A few days later, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, responding to Vanetsyan's statement, called his conduct unfit for an officer. -0---
