Yerevan tightens requirements for construction sites after violent explosion of multi-storey building

YEREVAN, 19 September. /ARKA/. New standards for construction sites have been set in Yerevan, Yerevan Municipality reports.

At a meeting in the Municipality with representatives of administrative districts the standards mandatory for demolition and reconstruction of buildings were discussed.

In particular, signboards informing passers-by about the demolition or reconstruction should be placed in visible places on the whole territory of the construction site.

In addition, special blocking zones must be created around the entire perimeter of the demolition site. For this purpose it is necessary to use temporary fences in the form of metal cages at least 1.5 metres high with lighting.

Also, from now on the laying of bitumen-polymer paste will be mandatory along the entire perimeter of the asphalt cut.

In case of violation of the mentioned requirements and norms, penalties will follow.

On 11 September, a video clip showing the demolition of a multi-storey building at Paruyr Sevak 5/1 with violations was circulated in the Armenian segment of social networks, which caused a flurry of discontent among local residents.

In particular, no prior notice of demolition was given, the street was not blocked, and there were people in the immediate vicinity of the demolition site. -0-
