Armenia shares 6th-7th places in ranking of GMs born after 1992
YEREVAN, Jan. 3. /ARKA/. Armenia shares the 6th-7th places in a rating of the number of chess grandmasters born in this or that country after 1992.
The ranking is topped by Russia with 37 GMs, followed by India with 35 GMs, the United States with 19, China with 17, and Ukraine with 15. Armenia shares 6th-7th places with Germany’ both counties have had 11 GMs each born since 1992. Armenia’s population is about 3 million.
The ranking, which includes 38 countries, was compiled by a Russian translator, Russian Football News columnist Alexei Spektr. It was posted by FIDE General Director Emil Sutovsky on his Facebook.
The updated ranking of chess countries for January 2022, published on the FIDE website, ranks Armenia 10th. The top five are Russia, the U.S., China, Ukraine and India. --0--
