Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan topped the list of most frequently cited politicians by local mass media in 2011 February, according to MediaGid, the first Armenian automatic news processing and handling system.
YEREVAN, March 10, /ARKA/. Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan topped the list of most frequently cited politicians by local mass media in 2011 February, according to MediaGid, the first Armenian automatic news processing and handling system. Mediagid coordinator Armen Martirosian told ARKA that the popularity rating revealed that president Serzh Sargsyan was the most frequently cited Armenian political figure by Armenian mass media in 2011 January. He was quoted a total of 339 times. He said president Sargsyan has topped the list for three months in a row.
MediaGid has a special program analysing news and stories on similar topics, which are divided by categories. News items are provided by Armenian mass media. The main principles of the system is timely reporting, accessibility and impartiality. It was launched on November 30, 2010. The popularity index is formed on the basis of news reports received from partner websites which mention the names of Armenian politicians.
The second most popular political figure was prime minister Tigran Sarkisian, who was followed by Nagorno-Karabakh president Bako Sahakian, Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbnadian and defence minister Seyran Ohanian.
The popularity rating of Armenian commercial banks was topped by Ameriabank that was referred to 44 times. The list of top five most popular companies comprised VivaCell-MTS telecommunications company, NASDAQ OMX Armenia stock exchange, ArmenTel company and the Union of Information technology Enterprises(UITE).
The popularity ratings of show business representatives was topped by singer Andre, who was followed by singers Mher, French Armenian singer Charles Aznavour, Arame and Aramo. The popularity rating of sportsmen was topped by chess player Elina Danielian, boxer Arthur Abraham, chess player Tigran Petrosian. Political news were most popular, they were viewed 72,000 times, up from 39,000 in January. Mediagid handles now over 1200 pieces of information daily in Armenian Russian and English languages.
