STEPANAKERET, November 17, /ARKA/. The number of tourists visiting Nagorno-Karabakh increased by 48% in the first nine months of this year, said Sergey Shahverdian, head of a government department in charge of tourism issues.

Speaking to local journalists he ascribed the growth to a set of government-designed programs and the republic’s participation in several international tourism expositions.

He said the planned opening of an airport in Stepanakert is expected to give a strong boost to local tourism industry. He also said the government plans to open several tourism information centers.

‘We have one such center in Shushi and the next one will be in Stepanakert. We plan to open it next year,’ he said, adding that temporary information centers will be established in most popular tourist sites of Nagorno-Karabakh. –0--
