Artsakh hopes to get involved in My Armenia tourism program
YEREVAN, April 26. /ARKA/. Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) hopes to get involved in the My Armenia program, head of the Artsakh Tourism and Culture Development Agency Sergey Shakhverdyan said today at the opening of the 6th international tourism fair "In TourExpo-2019" in Yerevan.

He said the fair brings together the entire tourism potential of Armenia and Artsakh on one platform. "Tourism is out of politics, but at the same time it influences politics, and in this context it is very important that USAID and My Armenia program are partners of the fair. We have long been tourism partners with Armenia, and I am sure that My Armenia program will sooner or later perceive Karabakh as part of Armenia and will extend its projects to Artsakh as well," said Shakhverdyan.

Deborah Grieser, USAID Armenia Mission Director, noted in her turn that the US government is a partner of Armenia in promoting democracy and strengthening economic development. She said democratic reforms in Armenia should focus on the development of tourism as well, especially in the regions. She said she speaks not only as a USAID representative, but also as a tourist, and can say that Armenia is very interesting to tourists.

She said that the My Armenia program is conducted by USAID in 5 Armenians regions - Lori, Shirak, Tavush, Vayots Dzor and Syunik, and is aimed at improving the skills of residents in representing the tourist potential.

My Armenia, a joint partnership between USAID, the Smithsonian Institution, and the people of Armenia. The primary goals of this 5-year program are to build cultural heritage tourism in Armenia so as to increase the number of tourist visits, increase spending and days stayed per tourist with an emphasis outside of the capital, and create new job opportunities for Armenians.

The sixth international tourist exhibition "In TourExpo-2019" has gathered under one roof tour operators, air carriers, representatives of the hospitality industry and organizers of  active sport from Armenia, Artsakh, Egypt, Russia and Iran. -0-
