Pashinyan visits Jermuk, says local airport can be put back into operation

YEREVAN, September 4. /ARKA/. On Wednesday, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited the Vayots Dzor region to discuss the development of aviation and the potential exploitation of small airports in Jermuk and other towns. According to a post on the Prime Minister's Facebook page, the discussions focused on the regional aviation sector and the potential use of electric-powered aircraft.

"For the regions, it is necessary to introduce aircraft with electric engines. There are electric-powered planes already in production, and I am confident that if not now, then in a few years, mass production will begin," Pashinyan remarked during the visit.

The Jermuk Airport opened in 1956 and served passenger flights through 1989.
