Record number of foreign tourists visited Armenia in 2023

YEREVAN, January 9. /ARKA/. Sisian Poghosyan, head of Armenia's Tourism Committee, which is part of the Ministry of Economy, reported a significant increase in the number of foreign tourists who visited the country last year.
Speaking at a press conference today, she said that 2.3 million tourists visited Armenia last year, which is the highest figure ever.
"About 20% more compared to 2019 and 32% more compared to 2022," she said.
The head of the committee also noted that 50% of tourists were from Russia, 11% from Georgia and 6% from Iran. Also, China for the first time entered the top 10 countries in terms of the number of tourists visiting Armenia.
At the same time, Poghosyan clarified that tourists are those who stay in Armenia for more than 24 hours but less than one year.
She was asked whether a foreign tourist spends on average $1,200 in Armenia, as claimed by Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan.
Poghosyan replied that the minister had announced the data for the first half of the year, while data for the whole year will be available soon. -0-
