Around 15,000 tourists have visited the Armenian resort town of Dilijan this year, according to its mayor, Armen Santrosyan.

YEREVAN, August 21. /ARKA/. Around 15,000 tourists have visited the Armenian resort town of Dilijan this year, according to its mayor, Armen Santrosyan.
"At this point all rooms in more than 30 resort homes in the town are booked. Last year they had about 15,000 tourists all in all," he said. According to the mayor, about 60-70% of holidaymakers in Dilijan are citizens of Armenia.
The mayor said resting in Dilijan is available to people with different incomes with per night prices ranging from 5 to 180 thousand drams. Speaking to journalists he praised the government for a major repair of roads in the town.
"Over the past few years the community paid for the repair of about 40 km of urban roads. We are also upgrading the water supply, system," said the mayor.
Santrosyan also praised private investors for injecting their money in development of tourism, particularly, in construction of new hotels. He stressed that logging in the forests of Dilijan is strictly prohibited.
According to him, no logging was done even for choosing a site for the construction of a branch of the Central Bank.
According to government numbers, the number of tourists visiting Armenia in January-June 2012 increased by 5.1% compared to the same period in 2011 reaching 281,034 people. ($ 1 - 410.97 drams). -0-
