South Caucasus Railways and travel agencies discuss cooperation prospects

Representatives of the South Caucasus Railways (SCR), a Russian company operating Armenia’s railroads, met today with representatives from travel agencies Vanatur, Sati, Sputnik and Yerkir Nair to look into the prospects of cooperation in the organization of rail tours , the press service of the company said.

YEREVAN, March 20. / ARKA /. Representatives of the South Caucasus Railways (SCR), a Russian company operating Armenia’s railroads, met today with representatives from travel agencies Vanatur, Sati, Sputnik and Yerkir Nair to look into the prospects of cooperation in the organization of rail tours , the press service of the company said.
It was stated that railway tourism worldwide is getting popular and that such a trend can be seen in Armenia as well.
According to SCR, although organization of tourist trips is not its core business, it is open to cooperation with travel agencies and is ready to discuss their proposals.
Travel agents were told about the advantages of railway traveling to Batumi, a popular tourist destination on the Black Sea in Georgia. It was said that the cars are in good condition, air-conditioned, with the necessary equipment, the train has also ree Wi-Fi.
The company said travel agencies showed a particular interest in organizing bike and combined tours. They agreed to jointly develop a plan of actions for the development of rail tourism in Armenia.
The South Caucasus Railways is run by Russian Railways. The concessional agreement was concluded in 2008 for 30 years, with a right of extension for another 20 years after the first 20 years of operation. -0-
