YEREVAN, May 20. /ARKA/. A group of 20 Swiss French-speaking journalists who have arrived in Armenia to look into the country’s tourism industry, took part today in a meeting of the Association of Travel Journalists of Switzerland.
Armenia’s Trade Representative in Switzerland Hayk Hovhannisyan told journalists that this event is expected to raise Armenia’s international tourist image among French-speaking countries.
"The Swiss travel a lot, making an average of about 15 million visits a year. A visit lasts on average 10-12 days. About 5 million of these visits are made to Eastern Europe and Western Asia.," he said.
According to the trade representative, the Swiss tourists are more interested in unique countries with rich historical and architectural heritage and beautiful nature.
A member of the international Union of French-speaking Press (UFP) Alex Dekott noted that Armenia has every opportunity to attract Swiss tourists, and first of all by the contrast between its antiquity and modernity.
“I plan to make a film about Armenia before the autumn, in which the Matenadaran depository of ancient manuscripts and the Tumo Center for Creative Technologies will personify the contrast between the past and the future. We will present Armenia as a country with a conscience and soul. Your country deserves to be loved,” he said.
The meeting of the Association of Traveling Journalists of Switzerland was held in Yerevan at the initiative of the Trade Representation of Armenia in Switzerland and with the assistance of Armenia’s State Tourism Committee.
The journalists are expected to stay in Armenia for 5 days, during which they will visit key tourist centers by small groups. --0--
