Vardan Harutyunian, the newly appointed chief executive of the Russian-Armenian natural gas operator ArmRosGazprom (ARG), said today the fifth unit of the Hrazdan thermal power plant will be commissioned in the first quarter of 2011.
YEREVAN, January 10. / ARKA /. Vardan Harutyunian, the newly appointed chief executive of the Russian-Armenian natural gas operator ArmRosGazprom (ARG), said today the fifth unit of the Hrazdan thermal power plant will be commissioned in the first quarter of 2011.

Russia’s Gazprom monopoly acquired the incomplete facility in 2006 as part of a complex agreement twitch the Yerevan government that raised its controlling stake in the Armenian gas distribution network ARG to a commanding 80 percent.

Vardan Harutyunian was quoted in an ARG press release as saying that the year of 2011 will have a special significance for the company, especially in terms of launching the fifth unit of the power plant. He was also quoted as stressing the need to explorer potential markets for export of electrical power. He was said also to have instructed ARG divisions to prepare compete financial and technical reports on their activities in 201o and present their projects for 2011 and paid a special attention to financial discipline issues and optimization of expenses.

Earlier a deputy chairman of Gazprom, Valery Golubev, said the Russian giant spent more $460 million on finishing the protracted construction of the fifth unit in 2011. The electrical power that will be produced from Iranian natural gas will be shipped back to Iran as payment of gas.-0-
