Armenian parliamentarians welcome the appointment of Nerses Yeritsyan as RA Minister of Trade and Economic Development.
YEREVAN, June 12. /ARKA/. Armenian parliamentarians welcome the appointment of Nerses Yeritsyan as RA Minister of Trade and Economic Development.

Speaking at a press conference, Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Finance, Credit and Budget Affairs Gagik Minasyan said that Yeritsyan’s appointment is a positive factor.

“The newly appointed Minister of Trade has a reputation of reformer, who sees future economic development. His appointment will give an impetus to successful implementation of economic reforms in the country,” he said.

Minasyan pointed out that the first stage of economic reforms has been completed in Armenia, and the country is entering the second stage.

“Numerous problems, first of all the ones of raising economic competitiveness, GDP’s role, ratio between taxes and GDP and reducing shadow economy, have to be resolved. The Ministry of Trade will play a great role in this process, and it is most important that it be headed by a competent specialist,” Minasyan said.

In his turn, the Parliament member, owner of the “SIL Group” concern Khachatur Sukiasyan added that Nerses Yeritsyan is the only Government member that is so close to economy.

“This is extremely important for economic development. The Ministry of Trade will be most active in its new role,” Sukiasyan said.

He also said that Minister Yeritsyan will have to resolve a number of serious institutional problems, particularly the formation of the primary securities market. Nerses Yeritsyan was appointed RA Minister of Trade and Economic Development by RA President Robert Kocharyan on June 8, 2007. This post was earlier held by Karen Chshmarityan, who was elected to Parliament. P.T. –0—
