YEREVAN, August 19. /ARKA/. Armenia and Iran have reached an agreement to form a collaborative working group that will act as a practical platform for executing joint initiatives in industry and trade.

This agreement was finalized yesterday during a meeting between Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan and the Iranian delegation, which was led by Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Seyed Mohammad Atabaki.

As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy, Papoyan highlighted Armenia's appreciation for its amicable relations with Iran and expressed optimism regarding the extensive opportunities for collaboration at both the governmental and business community levels.

The discussions included topics such as enhancing trade and economic relations, boosting trade volume, and reinforcing business connections between the two nations.

Concerning the Free Trade Agreement between the EAEU and Iran, Papoyan remarked that its execution represents a significant advancement in the EAEU's partnership with Iran. He further noted that, in this context, Armenia is emerging as a crucial gateway for Iran to access the EAEU's unified market, which adds a unique strategic significance to the bilateral agenda between Armenia and Iran.

The meeting also featured a dialogue on ensuring seamless trade and logistics operations, as well as the secure movement of agricultural products, particularly focusing on the simplification of phytosanitary and veterinary procedures at the border and adherence to standards and technical requirements.

According to the most recent statistics from Armstat, the trade turnover between Armenia and Iran rose by 6% in the first half of 2025, totaling $342.5 million. Exports from Armenia were recorded at $45.5 million, reflecting a 14% decrease compared to the previous year, while imports from Iran saw an increase of 10.1%, amounting to $300.6 million.-0-
