Armenia and EBRD discuss opportunities for expanding cooperation

YEREVAN, February 19. /ARKA/. Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan and Alkis Drakinos, Regional Head of the Caucasus for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), discussed on Wednesday ways to expand cooperation,  the press service of the Armenian government reported.   

Head of the EBRD Armenian Office George Akhalkatsi also attended the meeting.

Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the important role of EBRD in Armenia both in the field of infrastructural reforms and in the establishment of financial market, as well as in improving the availability of financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).   

During the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation, including ongoing programs in the areas of road construction, water systems and solid waste management.  

The EBRD is one of the leading institutional investors in Armenia. The Bank's main priorities in Armenia include enhancing the competitiveness of companies and supporting financial sector intermediation through risk-sharing products.

Tthe EBRD has invested so far €2.4 billion in 220 projects in energy, infrastructure, telecommunications and finance sectors.-0-
