According to him, the Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure is negotiating with the Czech Ministry of Transport to reach an agreement on equipment for the construction of a new metro station in Yerevan.
"The Czech Republic, formerly Czechoslovakia, was better known for producing trams and trolleybuses, and now we are trying to understand how we can utilize the Czech Republic's potential," Khachaturyan said at a press briefing following his official visit to the Czech Republic.
The President noted that certain agreements have already been reached on a number of planned projects in the energy, industrial, and transport sectors.
Earlier, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudadyan met with the country's Minister of Transport Ivan Bednarik during a working visit to the Czech Republic. According to Khudadyan, Armenia is interested in expanding cooperation with the Czech Republic in the field of urban rail transport, including technical consulting, exchange of experience, and the participation of Czech companies.
On Metro Development
The project to build the 11th station of the Yerevan Metro, Ajapnyak, has been under discussion for several years. The Mayor's Office estimated the cost of the program at 107.3 billion drams (approximately $300 million). Construction was initially scheduled to begin in 2024, but was later postponed to the end of 2025 and later to 2026.
The 12th station is expected to be "Surmalu," built between the existing "Sasuntsi David" and "Zoravar Andranik" stations to improve transport accessibility in the surrounding area.
Recently, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the construction of at least four new stations is being considered as part of the Yerevan Metro's development.
