Armenia is ready to deepen trade and economic relations with EU in all areas – Minister

YEREVAN, March 19. /ARКА/. Armenia is ready to continue and deepen its trade and economic relations with the EU in all possible areas, said Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan on March 18 during a meeting with Meglena Kuneva, a lecturer at the Diplomatic Academy of the European External Action Service, former chief negotiator and EU commissioner, and former Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria.
The participants discussed a number of issues related to expanding trade and economic cooperation between Armenia and the EU, as well as jointly implemented programs and initiatives, the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Economy reported.
They touched upon issues related to the implementation of the provisions of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the rebranding and marketing process for the new "Armenian Cognac" name, entrepreneurship support programs, the use of EU technical assistance tools, and other matters.
The participants exchanged views on the modernization of the Armenian economy, export diversification, harmonizing the standards system with international requirements, developing a "green" economy, supporting small and medium-sized businesses in Armenia, and EU assistance in agriculture.
Papoyan also presented the Armenian government's "Crossroads of the World" project and its principles.
According to the National Statistical Committee, Armenia’s foreign trade turnover with EU countries in January 2025 amounted to approximately $154.56 million, showing a year-on-year growth of 9.9%. The top five largest trading partners of Armenia among European countries are Germany (nearly $27 million, a decrease of 8.7%), Italy ($24.5 million, a decrease of 19.9%), Belgium (almost $16 million, an increase of 14.7%), the Netherlands (more than $12 million, an increase of 63.9%), and France (almost $9.4 million, an increase of 46.5%).
