YEREVAN, August 7. /ARKA/. In Armenia, the birth rate decreased by 1.9% and the death rate by 4.7% from January to June 2026, compared to January to June 2025. This is according to data published by the Statistical Committee of Armenia (Armstat).

Birth Rate

In the first half of 2026, 14,281 babies were born in the country, compared to 14,564 in the first six months of 2025.

Moreover, 169 stillbirths were registered during the reporting period, which is 16.3% lower than in the same period of 2025.

The population viability rate—the ratio of births to deaths—was 114.5% in January-June 2026, compared to 111.3% in the same period last year. The sex ratio at birth was 111 boys per 100 girls (based on 1,000 live births and stillbirths).

Mortality

In the first half of this year, 12,476 people died in Armenia, compared to 13,090 in the same period last year. More than half of these deaths (51.5%, or 6,425 people) were due to circulatory diseases, a 5.8% decrease compared to January-June 2025.

Neoplasms are the second leading cause of death (21.9%, or 2,726 people, an increase of 8.1%). Other causes of death also included respiratory diseases (9.8% or 1,218 people, a decline of 12.1%), diseases of the digestive system (5.3% or 661 people, an increase of 3.4%), accidents, poisoning, injuries (3.3% or 417 people, a decline of 4.4%), diseases of the endocrine system (2.1% or 263 people, a decline of 6.7%), and infectious diseases (0.6% or 75 people, a decline of 51.3%).
