YEREVAN, December 30. /ARKA/.In 2026, the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center of Armenia plans to purchase two new weather radars, the center's director, Levon Azizyan, announced at a press conference.

"According to the medium-term expenditure program, we have submitted requests for the purchase of three meteorological radar stations. The 2026 budget has already approved a plan to acquire two such modern stations," Azizyan said, adding that the cost of each installation is approximately $2 million.

Azizyan pointed out that the current weather radars, which were manufactured in the 1980s, have long been outdated. The department now develops estimates and forecasts based on laboratory analysis of observations and sampling.

He also mentioned that the deployment of the new radar stations will significantly contribute to the development of the "Early Warning System."
