Pashinyan: Statement by EAEU leaders on referendum in Armenia was perceived as a friendly gesture
YEREVAN, August 20. /ARKA/. The statement by the leaders of four EAEU countries supporting the idea of holding a referendum in Armenia on EU membership was perceived as a friendly gesture, not a demand, stated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
"The statement by the leaders of the four EAEU countries stated their support for the idea of holding a referendum. The very idea of holding a referendum actually came from us – we believe that a referendum should take place at a certain stage," Pashinyan noted at a зкуыы briefing on Thursday.
He stated that they presented their proposals regarding the timing, and the Armenian side presented theirs.
"Where is this demand recorded? I perceived this statement not as a demand, but as a friendly gesture. The people (EAEU leaders) stated that they share this position and do not resist Armenia's agenda of deepening relations and EU membership," Pashinyan said.
According to him, a balanced foreign policy is reflected in Armenia's membership in the EAEU, and developing relations with its member countries is on the agenda. At the same time, the country has established strategic relations with the United States, Georgia, China, France, the Netherlands, and Kazakhstan.-0-
