Temporary ban imposed on crayfishing in Armenia

YEREVAN, May 16. /ARKA/. Artsvik Minasyan, Armenian nature protection minister, signed a decree on Monday prohibiting temporarily crawfish hunting in the country, the press office of the ministry reports.
The ban is in force from May 15 to July 31 – the breeding period.
The minister instructed the head of the Sevan National Park to tighten grip on the coastal territories of Lake Sevan.
This year, crayfishing was limited by the environment ministry to 3,000 tons, of which 1,100 from Sevan, while in 2016 the limit stood at 3,600 tons.
According to the customs agency’s reports, 1 844.3 tons of crawfishes of the total cost of $788,300 (customs cost) were exported from the country in 2016 (47.6% decline). --0----
