The next Ombudsman should be ready for direct political blackmail by mass media, said Ombudsman of Armenia Armen Harutyunyan.
YEREVAN, February 2. /ARKA/. The next Ombudsman should be ready for direct political blackmail by mass media, said Ombudsman of Armenia Armen Harutyunyan.
Yesterday Harutyunyan submitted resignation letter to the Armenian National Assembly according to Article 97 of parliament regulation.
“Media can issue false and dirty articles about the Ombudsman.... He could be able not to pay attention on them and continue his work”, said Harutyunyan in the press-conference on Wednesday.
The biggest challenge for the future Ombudsman should be provision of independence level of the institute of Ombudsman in the country.
“I think that we managed to gain relative independence by speaking about the things that are taking place in the country. It is a success to some extent”, said Harutyunyan.
He agreed to act as regional representative of UN High Commissioner on Human Rights in Central Asia on February 17, 2006. --0--
