Armenian parliament has approved today in the first reading an amendment to the Labor Code allowing some enterprises to shift to a six-day working week.
YEREVAN, February 10, /ARKA/. Armenian parliament has approved today in the first reading an amendment to the Labor Code allowing some enterprises to shift to a six-day working week.

The chairman of a parliament committee on social issues, Hakob Hakobian, said the six-day working would be introduced to enterprises which must be operational six days a week.

He explained that the length of the working week will not be extended beyond the current 40 hours. In his words, the shift is designed for mining companies, which will allow them to organize their operations in a more flexible manner.

The bill caused the discontent of the parliamentary minority. Thus, Larisa Alaverdian, the secretary of the Zharangutyun (Heritage) parliamentary faction, argued that the bill when passed would simply legalize the existing illegal practice of making the personnel work on off days.-0-
