Rapprochement with the European family of nations is a key priority in foreign policy of Armenia, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said today at a meeting with visiting EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.
YEREVAN, November 17. /ARKA/. Rapprochement with the European family of nations is a key priority in foreign policy of Armenia, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said today at a meeting with visiting EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton.

The press service of the Armenian Foreign Affairs Ministry said Edward Nalbandian expressed his satisfaction that relations between Yerevan and Brussels have been extending and deepening, stressing also that her visit to Armenia will give a new impetus to bilateral relations.

"Our relations are based on shared values, and we are dedicated to consistent implementation of the reforms that are consonant with the European standards", Nalbandian was quoted as saying.

In turn, Ashton said the EU attaches great importance to the development of comprehensive cooperation with Armenia and will continue to assist in the development and implementation of reforms.

The two sides noted with satisfaction the dynamically developing relations as evidenced by high-level exchanges, expansion and deepening of the political dialogue, progress in negotiations on the association agreement, preparatory work for negotiations on deep and comprehensive free trade zone and the steps to simplify the visa regime.

At the request of the EU High Representative, Edward Nalbandian presented the current state in the Karabakh peace process. In this regard, Ashton expressed support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group. The two sides also exchanged views on regional issues. -0-
