YEREVAN, March 3. /ARKA/. Armenia’s authorities are determined to hold the organizers, instigators and executors of mass riots in the country’s capital responsible, the head of the presidential administration Armen Gevorgian said at his meeting with the ambassadors of OSCE countries and representatives of international organizations as quoted by the presidential press service.
Gevorgian described the situation in the country after March the 1st and the reasons for declaring a state of emergency. The ambassadors were informed that Armenian authorities have taken all the necessary measures to ensure the law observance and legal order in Yerevan and prevent from illegal actions of demonstrators.
Saturday morning the Police of Armenia broke up the rally of the opposition ex-president of Armenia Ter-Petrosian at the Square of Freedom in Yerevan. After that the demonstrators moved to the French Embassy near the Yerevan Municipality where clashes occurred with the Police and the OMON (emergency platoon)
On March 1 Armenia’s President imposed a state of emergency on Yerevan, effective for 20 days, under item 6 paragraph 14 of Article 55, Armenia’s Constitution (threat to the country’s security and population). –0--
