ARF ministers and governors tender their resignations
YEREVAN, April 26. /ARKA/.  Armenia’s acting minister of territorial administration and development David Lokyan, acting minister of education and science Levon Mkrtchyan, acting minister of nature protection  Artsvik Minasyan, as well as the governor of Shirak province  Artur Khachatryan and the governor of Aragatsotn province Ashot Simonyan, all members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), known also as Dashnaktsutyun,  have tendered their resignations.

Their move comes after ARF has announced it leaves the political coalition with the Republican Party of Armenia.

"We are convinced that the current situation should be solved exclusively within the legal, constitutional framework", the party said in a statement.

The decision to quit the ruling coalition was prompted by ongoing mass protests in Yerevan and across the country led by MP Nikol Pashinyan aimed at preventing the Republican Party from nominating its candidate for the post of the prime minister.

The street protests had stopped on April 23 after prime minister Serzh Sargsyan, who had served two terms as president, was forced to step down. They resumed on April 25, when Nikol Pashinyan was proposed as a candidate for the post of prime minister.

Earlier today Armenian parliament chairman Ara Babloyan said the parliament will call an extraordinary session on May 1 ‘to discuss the issue of election of new prime minister.-0-
