YEREVAN, February 28. /ARKA/. Armenian president-elect Serzh Sargsyan held an extended meeting of the country’s Security Council Wednesday.
Sargsyan said it is important to consolidate what has been achieved in the presidential elections with active work, the presidential press service reported.
In particular, the president-elect mentioned two achievements – prevailingly positive response of the international community on the elections and elections held in a no-hatred atmosphere.
“It is very important now not to relax, not to stop, but continue everyday efforts to consolidate what has been achieved”, Sargsyan said.
There is still work to be done for improving the election mechanism, he said. International observers’ recommendations should be summarized and every media article should be dealt with, he added. In this respect there will be work not only for legislators and the government, but also for the law-enforcement, Sargsyan said.
During the meeting reports were made on the outcome of the February 18 presidential vote, violations occurred and the current state of consideration of the cases.
The president instructed the head of his administration to resume the election code reform working group discussions and involve, to the highest possible extent, political parties and the civil society in the process.
The police and prosecutor’s office were assigned to properly consider the violation reports.
Among participants of the extended national Security Council meeting were cabinet members, mayor of Yerevan, and heads of the central bank, the control chamber and the cassation court, as well as governors of Armenia’s regions. -0-
