The Council of Europe (CE) is ready to support the constitutional reform in Armenia, CE Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland said at his meeting with Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan in New York.

YEREVAN, September 25. /ARKA/. The Council of Europe (CE) is ready to support the constitutional reform in Armenia, CE Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland said at his meeting with Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan in New York.

Sargsyan arrived in New York on a working visit to participate in the 69th UN General Assembly session.

Jagland stressed the importance of the constitutional reform and Venice commission’s involvement in it, the presidential press office reported.

Jagland also confirmed CE’s further support in the process and expressed confidence the reform will facilitate development of the Armenian society based on human rights and the rule of law, according to the report.

Asked by Jagland, Sargsyan spoke about the current stage of the Karabakh peace process. The sides stressed the role of the OSCVE Minsk Group in the process.

Under a presidential decree, an expert commission was set up in Armenia on September 4, 2013, to deal with the constitutional reform. The reform concept is expected to be finalized in October. –0--
