Defense ministry sets up commission to look into conscription complaints

Gegham Harutyunyan, head of Armenia’s defense ministry’s public council will chair a special commission set up to look into complaints and applications by citizens whose sons will be conscripted during the winter call-up.
YEREVAN, November 26. / ARKA /. Gegham Harutyunyan, head of Armenia’s defense ministry’s public council will chair a special commission set up to look into complaints and applications by citizens whose sons will be conscripted during the winter call-up.
The commission will have its meetings every Monday and Thursday from 11.00 to 16.00. The meetings are open for mass media, the defense ministry said today in a statement. It said the first meeting will be held on December 2.
On November 6 president Serzh Sargsyan signed a winter conscription and demobilization decree. According to it, all male citizens who turn 18 until December 18 will be called up for compulsory military or alternative service, including those of citizens, whose right to deferment expires on December 31. -0-
