YEREVAN, April 10. /ARKA/. Armenia’s president Serzh Sargsyan said at his meeting with the constitutional reform commission members he will never run for president again, the presidential press office told Novosti-Armenia.
Sargsyan also said he will not aspire to premier’s office either if the parliamentary system is picked up in the final discussion on the constitutional reform.
He said he is confident same person should not lead Armenia for more than two terms.
The president said he still believes presidential republic system is the most acceptable one in the current stage. According to Sargsyan, this issue should be widely discussed in the public, with involvement of experts, the civil society and the political parties, to ensure a balanced final decision is made.
The decision should aim at stability and development and not serve interests of particular groups, Sargsyan said.
“Together, we should manage to nail down decisions that are above situational or personal interests or political views, as it relates to the development process and the future of our country. People, political forces, momentary interests are passing, but the Constitution remains for generations”, the president said. –0--
