Security Council Secretary: Armenia purchases weapons only to protect its territory

YEREVAN, June 26. /ARKA/. Armenia only purchases weapons and munitions to protect its territorial integrity, the country’s Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan told Armenpress on Wednesday.
All the purchased weapons will only be used within Armenia’s sovereign territory, he said.
“Everyone is responsible for peace in the region, most importantly the countries of the region themselves, but international partners can also support, and many of them do support, stability and peace,” he added.
Grigoryan revealed earlier that Armenia ordered $250 million worth of weapons supplies from Russia in 2021 and paid for those, but Russia did not deliver the weapons. This was the reason Armenia started seeking new partners for defense cooperation, including India and several EU countries, including France which recently supplied CAESAR howitzers to Yerevan.
According to Indian sources, Delhi recently supplied Pinaka multiple rocket launcher systems, anti-tank missiles, and munitions, as well as six ATAGS howitzers worth $155 million, and 90 more such howitzers are expected to arrive in Armenia in the next three years.
