TRIPP will operate in accordance with EAEU regulations – Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister
YEREVAN, July 1. /ARKA/. Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan commented on Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin's statement that the TRIPP project would only benefit from Russia's participation.

"Currently, TRIPP is being implemented in the Armenia-US format; the agreement has been signed and is in the implementation phase," he emphasized.

When asked by Azatutyun whether Moscow's participation in TRIPP in any format is acceptable to official Yerevan or whether it could be discussed in the future, the deputy minister replied: "I would not like to say anything about the future now."

Safaryan added that the Republic of Armenia is currently a member of the EAEU, and transit rules are governed by the norms of the Eurasian Economic Union. When asked whether this meant that TRIPP would also operate in accordance with EAEU regulations, the Deputy Foreign Minister affirmatively stated.

"EAEU customs regulation is carried out by our customs authorities, so we don't see any problem here," he replied when asked whether this meant that cooperation with both the American and Russian sides would be pursued within the framework of joint work.

About the TRIPP Project

The Armenian Foreign Ministry announced on June 4 that Armenia and the United States had signed the TRIPP framework agreement, initialed on May 26 during the US Secretary of State's visit to Yerevan.

A day earlier, the Board of Directors of the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) approved the establishment of the TRIPP Development Company, a joint venture between the US and Armenia (one of four projects in DFC's $2.5 billion new strategic investment package).

The TRIPP Development Company is designed to support trade, transport, and economic development in the Caucasus region, as well as expand international, interstate, and intrastate transport connectivity.

Armenian authorities previously stated that TRIPP Development Company would receive an initial 49-year right to implement the project. The plan is to offer the US a 74% stake in the joint venture, with Armenia retaining 26%. If the agreement is extended for another 50 years, the share ratio is expected to change.
