Yerevan mayor officially resigns

The mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan has officially resigned.

YEREVAN, July 9. /ARKA/. The mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan has officially resigned. The news was placed on the official website of the Yerevan municipality.
"Throughout my term in office, I tried to hear the voice of each of you and solve the problems of the capital step by step. I was true to my promise and my programs," said Margaryan in a statement addressed to Yerevan residents.
He also thanked members of the Yerevan Council of Elders, the heads of administrative districts of the capital, partner organizations and individuals for joint work.
Margaryan was elected mayor of the Armenian capital by the Council of Elders in 2011 after the resignation of Karen Karapetyan. He was reelected in 2013 and 2017. He joined the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) in 1996.
Margaryan began his political career in 2005 when he was elected mayor of Yerevan’s administrative district Avan at the age of 27. His late father Andranik Margaryan was Armenia’s prime minister and the leader of the HHK at the time.
In February 2014, he defended his PhD in economy. Margaryan is also deputy chairman of the Armenian Chess Federation and the chairman of the Chess Federation of Yerevan. -0-
