Armenian online mass media report that Yerevan mayor Taron Margaryan has resigned.

YEREVAN, July 9. /ARKA/. Armenian online mass media report that Yerevan mayor Taron Margaryan has resigned. The Yerevan municipality, however, has not yet confirmed the news officially.
Margaryan was elected mayor of the Armenian capital by the Council of Elders in 2011 after the resignation of Karen Karapetyan. He was reelected in 2013 and 2017. He joined the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) in 1996.
Margaryan began his political career in 2005 when he was elected mayor of Yerevan’s administrative district Avan at the age of 27. His late father Andranik Margaryan was Armenia’s prime minister and the leader of the HHK at the time.
In February 2014, he defended his PhD in economy. Margaryan is also deputy chairman of the Armenian Chess Federation and the chairman of the Chess Federation of Yerevan. -0-
