Armenia drops 9 notches in latest Global Innovation Index

Armenia was ranked 68th in the latest Global Innovation Index (GII) rankings released in New York, falling nine notches from the previous ranking.

YEREVAN, July 11. /ARKA/. Armenia was ranked 68th in the latest Global Innovation Index (GII) rankings released in New York, falling nine notches from the previous ranking.  The 11th Global Innovation Index report, compiled by the Cornell University, the graduate business school IINSEAD and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) embraced 126 countries.

Armenia had the highest indicators in "creative outputs" - 48th place, "knowledge and technology" (62nd). "institutions"  - (67th). In terms of  "market sophistication" indicator Armenia was  81st, in "business sophistication" it was 88th place, in "infrastructure" indicator Armenia was ranked 93rd  and 110th in terms of human capital and research.

Armenia was behind Ukraine (43rd place), Russia (46th), Moldova (48th), Turkey (50th), Georgia (59th) and  Iran (65th place). The innovation index was lower in Kazakhstan (74th), Azerbaijan (82nd), Belarus (86th), Kyrgyzstan (94th) and Tajikistan (101st).

The global innovation index in 2018 is led by Switzerland. The top five are the Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Singapore. Outsiders were Burkina Faso, Togo and Yemen.

The Global Innovation Index has been compiled since 2007. It estimates 126 countries based on 80 indicators, ranging from tariffs for the registration of intellectual property to the creation of mobile applications, education costs and scientific and technical publications. -0-
