Armenia’s population continues shrinking

Armenia’s resident population stood 2,962,100 people as of April 1, 2019, according to the numbers, released today by the National Statistical Committee (NSC).

YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. Armenia’s resident population stood 2,962,100 people as of April 1, 2019, according to the numbers, released today by the National Statistical Committee (NSC).
When opposed to the same time span of 2018, the resident population was less by 7,800 people, it said. But when compared to the beginning of the year, the overall resident population was down by 3,200 people.
The negative migration balance since the start of the year was 3,900 people, while the natural growth amounted to 700 people.
The number of urban population as of April 1 was 1,893,400, a decline of 1,100 people from April 1, 2018. The capital city Yerevan’s population stood at 1,081,600 people. In rural areas, the population decreased by 6,700 people to 1,068,700 people.
According to the National Statistical Service, in the first quarter of 2019, some 8,042 children were born in the country, which was 3.1% less than in the same period of time in 2018. At the same time, during the reporting period, the number of deaths increased by 3.4% to 7,373. -0-
