Armenia’s population dwindled by 15,100 people in the first quarter of this year from the same period last year, according to the latest figures, released today by National Statistical Service.

YEREVAN, April 30. / ARKA /. Armenia’s population dwindled by 15,100 people in the first quarter of this year from the same period last year, according to the latest figures, released today by National Statistical Service.
The number of permanent population stood at 3,012,900, including 1,911,800 of urban population. At the same time, the number of the population decreased by 4,500 people when compared with the beginning of the year.
The natural increase was some 1,700 people, while the migration rate was negative with 6,200 people.
According to Armenia’s border electronic control system, 990,300 people entered and left the country in the first three months of this year, up from 826,700 in the same period in 2013.
Some 479,219 people entered the country (a 21.3 % rise over the same time span last year) and 511,053 left it in the first three months of 2014 (up 18.3%).
The number of babies born in January-March (9,789) increased by 2.2% compared with the same period in 2013. Meanwhile, the number of deaths increased by 7.7 %, amounting to 188. The natural increase was 1,691 people. -0-
