YEREVAN, October 28. /ARКА/. As part of a plan of measures designed to streamline the work of Armenia's Police Force, in 2020 the country will have mobile patrol police units, interim Police Chief Arman Sargsyan told a parliamentary hearing on the draft 2020 budget.
He said the mobile patrol police service will monitor the law and order, and respect for property rights around the clock, and help citizens if necessary. In his words, the introduction of the service is dictated by the desire to improve the police work.
According to him, the police patrol service will operate under the jurisdiction of the Special Directorate, which will analyze the messages received from surveillance cameras and quickly respond using the latest technologies, in particular, GPRS. Sargsyan said the new service will replace the Traffic Police and precinct police officers.
Sargsyan also spoke about structural reforms in regional departments and divisions. In particular, the number of pre-trial detention cells will be cut and instead one pre-trial detention cell be created in each police precinct in accordance with international standards.
Sargsyan said the Police will have a new position- that of secretary general to increase the effectiveness of the work of the leading staff. He said also a newspaper run by the Police, called ' 02' will be closed.
He said for the implementation of the planned reforms the 2020 budget will earmark 64.9 million drams (about $136 million) for the Police, which is only by 0.8% more than in 2018. -- 0--
