Armenian government develops food security strategy
YEREVAN, Oct. 13. /ARKA/. The Armenian government is developing a food security strategy, Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan told reporters on Thursday.
"Ensuring food self-sufficiency and security is the most important task of the government. In this regard, we can't say the situation in Armenia is ideal. At the beginning of the year there was a difficult period when the level of danger rose sharply due to embargoes announced by several countries. Now we are developing a food security strategy more systematically and as a result we will make sure that people in our country have proper and healthy food," he said.
Kerobyan noted that correct nutrition is also an important task for food security, because a large part of children in Armenia are undernourished, not because of lack of money, but because families have no knowledge of healthy nutrition.
"We have a lot of work to do in this regard, and we hope there will be tangible changes in the foreseeable future," he said.
"When ensuring food security, the government develops programs so as to ensure high productivity, so that companies working in the field of agriculture and farms can operate at a profit," he stressed.-0-
