YEREVAN, January 15. /ARKA/. In a Facebook video the Armenian government lists the types of traffic rule breaches and the size of fines for each breach.
Under the new penalty point or merit point system, which came into force starting January 1, 2020, a person’s driving license is cancelled or suspended based on the number of points he/she loses over a period of 12 months because of the traffic offences. Each motorist is given 9 points at the beginning of a year.
1. Driving a car with an unreadable license plate entails a fine of 5,000 drams and loss of 0.5 point.
2. If at least one digit on the license plate is covered, the fine is 25,000 drams. The driver loses 2 points.
3. Transferring once' license plate to another person entails a fine of 25,000 drams and loss of 3 points.
4. Violation of the intersection passage rules entails a fine of 5,000 drams and loss of 1 point.
5. Violation of the rules for crossing pedestrian crossings entails a fine of 5,000 drams and loss of 1 point.
6. Violation of detour rules entails a fine of 5,000 drams and loss of 1 point.
7. Improper maneuvering and violation of reverse rules entails a fine of 5,000 drams and loss of 1 point.
8. Crossing the solid line entails a fine of 10,000 drams and loss of 1 point.
9. Intersecting the solid line with a left turn and a turn in the wrong place entails a fine of 20,000 drams and loss of 2 points.
10. Violation of the law on traffic regulations that caused emergency situation entails a fine of 20,000 drams and loss of 2 points.
11. Riding against traffic, including reversing, on a one-way street entails a fine of 20,000 drams and loss of 3 points.
12. Departure into the oncoming lane (if this is not connected with overtaking or detouring an obstacle in an acceptable place) entails a fine of 25,000 drams and loss of 3 points.

17. Talking on the phone in the car entails a fine of 10,000 drams and loss of 1 point.
18. Smoking while driving entails a fine of 7,000 drams and loss of 1 point.
19. Smoking while driving by public transport and taxi drivers entails a fine of 20,000 drams and loss of 1 point.
20. Driving a car with unfastened seat belts of the driver and passengers entails a fine of 10,000 drams and loss of 1 point.
21. Driving a motorcycle without a helmet entails a fine of 10,000 drams and loss of 1 point.
22. Over-speeding by 11-30 km / h entails a fine of 20,000 drams and loss of 3 points.
23. Over-speeding by 31-50 km / h entails a fine of 25,000 drams and loss of 3 points.
24. Over-speeding by 51-80 km / h entails a fine of 29,000 drams and loss of 4 points.
25. Over-speeding by 81 km / h or more entails cancellation of driver's license for 12 months.
26. Riding without a license plate, with a fake or replaced license plate entails cancellation of driver's license for 12 months.
27. Drunk driving entails a fine of 29,000 drams and loss of 4 points.
28. If in 1 liter of driver’s blood the volume of pure alcohol exceeds 1 gram, or if in 1 liter of air exhaled by him/her the volume of pure alcohol exceeds 0.5 grams, his/her driver's license is cancelled for 1 year.
29. For drivers of public transport or taxi, if the alcohol content in the blood is 0.2–1 grams, in exhaled air - 0.1-0.5 mg, their driver's licenses are cancelled for 6 months
20. Driving while intoxicated or under the influence of psychotropic substances entails cancellation of driver's license for 2 years.
21. Failure to pass the sobriety test entails cancellation of driver's license for 2 years.
22. Failure to comply with the inspector's requirement to stop the car entails cancellation of the license for 1 year.
23. Installation of red and / or blue flashing beacons or sound sirens on a car without permission entails cancellation of license for 1 year.
24. Installation of yellow license plates on other cars entails loss of the right to drive a car for 1 year.
25. Driving a car with cancelled driver's license entails a fine of 200-300 thousand drams, or 2-month arrest, deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of 1 year
26. Driving a car with cancelled driver's license, drunk, with refusal to pass a sobriety test entails a fine of 300-500 thousand drams, arrest from 6 months to 1 year, deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of 2 years.
The drivers will be informed of administrative fine regarding each violation and can calculate the lost points themselves. -0-
