YEREVAN, September 24. /ARKA/. On September 23, under the chairmanship of Varag Siseryan, the head of the office of Vice-Premier Tigran Avinyan, the first meeting of the working group coordinating the Old Yerevan construction program was held, the press service of the government reports.

Siseryan said that the Old Yerevan project is one of the key components of the sustainable development of Armenia’s capital city, both in terms of urban planning and the preservation of historical and cultural values.

“The project is aimed at stimulating construction processes in Yerevan while preserving the color, historical and cultural environment of the central part of the city,” he said.

The head of the office said that active work is under way, and about 47 out of 150 real estate units in the area are currently subject to alienation.

“Problems associated with the implementation and construction processes are generalized daily, and active work is underway at the state level to resolve them,” he said.

Siseryan said that since 2018 there has been a positive shift in the processes, in particular, the amount of compensation to residents has increased.

“It should be noted that due to the volume and multi-level nature of the project, a number of problematic issues arise in the course of the work carried out, in particular, those related to the alienation of land, building permits and so on. We will discuss and summarize the problems, try to find appropriate solutions and complete this project,” said the head of the office.

During the meeting, representatives of various departments presented the current state of land acquisition processes, design and construction work. The major problems related to the implementation of the program, as well as those related to their solution were discussed. The next steps of the working group are outlined.

The Old Yerevan project implies the reconstruction of the architectural appearance of the Armenian capital of the late 19th - early 20th centuries. On a small patch in the center of the city, it is planned to restore several dozen buildings and architectural structures erected during this period and representing historical and cultural value.

The investors of the program, according to the decision of the government, are the Old City Company represented by the Swiss businessman of Armenian origin Vartan Sirmakes and the local businessman Vahe Harutyunyan. The entire plot provided for building, with an area of about 20,000 square meters, is divided between these two investors in a share ratio of 16,500 square meters and 3,500 thousand sq. m respectively.

As part of the reconstruction of the historic quarter, it is planned to build a shopping and public complex, build a two-storey underground parking lot. The presence of living space is excluded. -0-
